A message from our Chairperson Tom Walsh

I work for British Gas and have done so from leaving school in 1977. My passion had always been football until one day I saw an advert in a living room window for a Liverpool Basketball Club play off game against a London team I hadn't heard of. Disillusioned with football I was looking for something else to whet my sporting appetite. The year was 2005. I decided to take my eldest son Nick who was 15 at the time to this game whether he wanted to go or not. I told my wife Diane that it was Nick’s idea, and told Nick to shut up and get into the car.The game was fantastic although the DJ kept getting louder and louder, so much so that I couldn't concentrate. To cap it all he kept parading in front of the crowd lashing sweets at us and encouraging us to support our team. We would I thought, if you would lower the volume. The game went from end to end with baskets galore. I had no idea what was going on with regards to the rules. We thoroughly enjoyed our day out and vowed to return. Later that month Nick came home from school and told me he had been playing Basketball there and had really enjoyed it. I asked if he would like to go to a Liverpool Club camp that I had seen advertised. Members of their first team would train him and later he would play in a game. Result! He jumped at the opportunity and so off I went with him to my second ever Basketball game. Nick was progressing well and asked to try out for Liverpool's u16 team. He Passed his trial and joined them. We spent a year with them and it is a club I will always remember with affection because it started my whole family’s involvement in the great sport that is Basketball. In my relatively few years of Basketball involvement I have met many incredible people who work to promote basketball at every level. Sefton Stars exists so that others can experience the same thrill locally that I have described above.

A message from our Head Coach Phil McLoughlin

Welcome to our Club!
Sefton Stars is a hard working organization with its heart strings connected deep in the community. If there is one word I could use to describe Sefton it would be ‘FAMILY.’ The sense of ‘togetherness’ is obvious as soon as you walk through the doors at Fernhill and this is the reason I made the fateful decision three years ago to make the club my home. Our club is still in its infancy, only five years old however the steps we have taken in that short time show signs of what we all believe, Sefton is destined to do great things. We are already recognized as the largest club on Merseyside, not only in numbers of teams we have representing us (11) but in stature also. It is said the quality of the club can be measured by the people and the quality of the people we have within our family are second to none. As the proud newly appointed Head Coach of Sefton Stars it is my personal responsibility to ensure that we continue to grow, a task made easier by the supporting staff. Our Chairman Tom Walsh has already set a very high bar in terms of standards and challenges are what our committee is all about. The Players, coaches, officials, parents and supporters and everyone else associated with our club would like to extend a very warm welcome to all who are fortunate enough to sample the great atmosphere within our club and if you haven’t been here yet, then you’re in for a real treat!!!

Philip McLoughlin
